Heirloom – Restaurant Review

Heirloom is a farm-to-table restaurant in Virginia Beach that has amazing food, wine, and even better vibes. I recently had an amazing dining experience and wanted to share through a restaurant review!

At the end of July, my husband and I went on a 9-day trip to Virginia Beach (VB), Cleveland, OH to visit my family, and then New York City to visit his (where we dined at Senza Gluten by Jemiko Café and Bakery). The VB leg of our trip was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Patrick chose Heirloom for a special dinner. He later crowned himself king of finding restaurants.

Where is Heirloom?

The address is 2484 N Landing Rd. #113, VB, VA 23456. It is about a 20-minute drive from the shore.

What are the hours of operation?

Heirloom is open Tuesday – Thursday 4pm – 9pm, Friday – Saturday 4pm – 10pm.

Who owns and operates Heirloom?

Brent Cowan is the chef and owner of Heirloom. He is a VB native who proudly sources most of his ingredients locally.

What is the environment like?

Heirloom sits in a farmhouse-style building with a large wrap around porch. The porch has rocking chairs, which are great to sit in if you have a wait for your table, and a few dining tables.

Heirloom sits on a large lot with a small pond and fountain out front. We were able to take a few pictures before our reservation, which came out great. Highly recommend that you stop here to capture the moment as well.

Inside has a great ambiance. It is nicely decorated and encourages intimate conversations. There also may have been a larger room on the opposite side of the restaurant for larger parties.

What is on the menu at Heirloom?

Because Chef Cowan tries to source his ingredients locally, the menu is seasonal. So, what was on the menu when we went in July may not be there when you’re able to go. However, there are a lot of fish and seafood dishes likely sourced from the bay or shore.

I had the duck breast, which I thought was amazing. The duck was served with potatoes, kale, and pickled blueberries. The combination, especially with the picked blueberries was perfect.

My husband had the pork chop, which he raved about from his first bite to several days after. I have never seen him be so excited about a meal before. I was grateful that he let me have a bite, and yes, it was remarkable!

Is Heirloom’s menu gluten-free?

The menu does not clearly designate gluten-free items. However, our server and the kitchen staff were very helpful with ensuring that my meal was gluten-free.

What is the service like?

Our server was fantastic. He had a great personality and shared a joke with us that he tells all his first-time guests. I even heard him tell it to a few other tables while we were there.

The sommelier was very knowledgeable and helped us choose a wine that was meant to pair with both of our meals. He was also very knowledgeable about Virginian wines, and we were able to talk about some of the wineries and grapes that we’ve had in the area. We ultimately chose a Virginian cabernet franc. It wasn’t the best pairing for my dish, but it was still a great wine.

Thank you for reading! If you make it to VB, let me know if you’re able to visit Heirloom. Also, comment below to give me other gluten sensitive restaurant recommendations! I like to travel, so it can be anywhere.
