Coastal Flats

Coastal Flats is a seafood restaurant that is a part of Great American Restaurants. There are two locations in northern Virginia and one in Maryland. Hubby and I recently had a date night at one of the northern Virginia locations and here’s my review!

I was super excited to come to this restaurant because it has a separate gluten-sensitive menu. I love having more than a few options when I dine out and the menu did not disappoint me. I’m looking forward to going back to try more items!

Which Coastal Flats location did I go to?

As I mentioned, there are three Coastal Flats locations in the DMV area (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia). We went to the Fairfax, Virginia location, which is located at 11901 Grand Commons Ave. Fairfax, VA 22030. This location is in Fairfax Corner, home to a mixed-use shopping center with retail stores, a movie theater, and several other restaurants.

What are the hours of operation?

Coastal Flats is open daily starting at 11:00am and closing at 10:00pm on Sunday-Monday, 11:00pm on Tuesday-Thursday, and 11:30pm on Friday-Saturday.

I’ve actually dined at Mike’s American several times. It was my go-to lunch location for one my mentors and I to meet up. I haven’t been in a few years, so I am definitely overdue for a visit back!

What is on the menu at Coastal Flats?

As I mentioned, Coastal Flats has a great gluten-sensitive menu. It’s pretty extensive with options in every category.

I had the Wood Grilled Filet Mignon. It was served with roasted cremini mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and a field green salad. The filet mignon was great, but the mushrooms and the sauce were pure perfection!

My husband doesn’t have a gluten allergy, so he ordered off the regular menu. He had the Short-Smoked Salmon Filet, which he enjoyed.

We shared the Warm Flourless Chocolate Waffle for dessert. It was by far the best flourless dessert I’ve ever had. I’m not a big fan of flourless desserts because I’ve been disappointed in the past, but this has renewed my energy to keep trying them when they are available.

What is the environment like at Coastal Flats?

When you first walk in, you are greeted with the host stand a large bar area. The interior of the restaurant is large and is of course decked out with colorful maritime décor.

What is the service like at Coastal Flats?

From the host stand to the server, the service all around was great!
