Copycat Take5

This copycat Take5 is just as good as the original, but it is gluten-free! Simply substitute the pretzel for a gluten-free version and you too can have this amazing treat at home.

Take5 is my favorite candy bar! It has all the perfect elements you want from a treat. It’s crunchy, salty, sweet, and chocolaty.

Why is it called a Take5 and what does a Take5 have in it?

Take5’s name is based on its ingredients, of which there are 5. Those ingredients are pretzels, caramel, peanuts, peanut butter, and chocolate.

Does Hershey still make Take5?

Hershey has rebranded Reese’s Take5 a few times since it was first introduced to the market in the early 2000s. However, Hershey still makes the Take5, mostly in the U.S., but it can be hard to find.

What is in the copycat Take5?

  • Gluten-free pretzels
  • 1 bag caramel
  • 1/2 cup salted peanuts
  • Creamy peanut butter (I used 1 10 oz. bag of melted Reese’s peanut butter chips)
  • 1 12 oz. bag chocolate morsels
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 6 tbsp. milk

How to make copycat Take5

Spray a 9×13 dish with cooking oil, then line it with parchment paper. Spraying the dish is optional, but it allows the parchment paper to stick to the pan and makes it easier to remove.

Line the dish with the gluten-free pretzels.

Melt the caramel on the stove or in the microwave with 4 tablespoons of water. Pour the caramel over the pretzels and even out.

Sprinkle the salted peanuts on top.

Freeze for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, melt the peanut butter in the microwave or on the stove. Even if you are using peanut butter from a jar, still melt it because you want a creamier texture. I ended up adding 6 tablespoons of almond milk (that’s all I had on hand) to assist with achieving the creamy texture I was looking for.

Once the peanut butter is melted, pour over the pretzels, caramel, and peanuts.

Put back in the freezer for another 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, melt the chocolate morsels. Be careful to watch the temperature. If the chocolate is too hot, then it will melt the caramel.

Cut the pretzel sheet into equal size bars. One by one, dip into the chocolate and place on another dish lined with parchment paper.

Place the bars back into the freezer so the chocolate can set.

Remove from the freezer and enjoy!
